In 1970, the Birmingham Police Athletic Teams was created by city officials, community leaders and the Community Affairs Committee (CAC) of Operation New Birmingham. The program was designed to bridge the gap between the city’s police and the underprivileged youth. The program has gained a national recognition by publication, by the White House and on the Senate Floor.
P.A.T. has sports programs for boys and girls. There's boys baseball, boys and girls basketball, and softball. The program has helped to produce as many professional athletes as any program in America.
The Birmingham Police Athletic Teams touch thousands of students each year through sport activities and community involvement. The Program is now in at least 35 neighborhoods, and continues to reach out for more.
